Dr Bill Carman worked for 37 years within Australia’s largest power utility, and since 1982 has been closely involved in earthing system design and testing, safety analysis, standards development, R&D, and training. Bill has a doctorate in the area of earthing system risk quantification and design, has authored over 40 technical papers, and is a conjoint Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University. He is active on Australian and international earthing related standards committees, and chairs the joint Cigre/Cired B3:35 committee investigating the integration of quantified risk in earthing system design and operation. Since 2014 he has operated as a specialist consulting engineer.
