This week, we’re bringing you a critical, yet often missed perspective from the energy industry – risk. At EECON 2017, Gaye Francis will be speaking about the benefits of an effective safety management system and how this connects to all levels of an organisation. Read on to find out how this pioneering risk manager got her start in the industry…
What is your area of focus?
My area of focus is due diligence. This means that I ensure the laws of man are aligned with the laws of nature.
Where do you see the industry in 2025?
I see a more flexible and intelligent electrical industry in 2025. Smarter technology means hazards will be particularly managed, rather than generically managed. For example, bushfire start management will be done on bushfire consequence zones.
What first drew you to the energy industry?
We were invited as due diligence experts on the Powerline Bushfire Safety Taskforce following the Black Saturday Fire Royal Commission.
What do you like most about your current role in the energy industry?
We make a difference. Business as usual doesn’t work anymore. New thinking is required. For example, lawyers are now mimicking engineering design processes.
